News & Announcements, Parenting | November 24, 2014

What happens when hundreds of healthy-minded moms come together? You get an incredible weekend full of laughs, learning, bonding, and fun! That’s exactly what happened at the WOW Summit this year in Orlando, Florida. We had an amazing lineup of inspirational speakers and educational workshops, great sponsors and exhibitors, and of course, TONS of prizes! Here’s a look back at all of the WOW-worthy moments.

Day 1:

We kicked off the weekend with a Luau-themed cocktail party, hosted by Zevia. Moms from all over the country gathered poolside at the beautiful Caribe Royale in Orlando for an evening of yummy cocktails, delicious food, and fun! Zevia was such an awesome sponsor, providing a Hawaiian photo booth and a super fun icebreaker game that had all of the moms interacting and getting to know one another! It was a great way to start the weekend. We’re still dreaming of the chocolate fondue…yum!

Day 2:

Saturday morning, we all met bright and early at the Caribe Royale Convention Center for a jam-packed day of speakers, exhibitors, and workshops. The day kicked off with an incredibly informative session with our keynote speaker, Robyn O’Brien.  Robyn, who is the founder of the AllergyKids Foundation, gave an insightful presentation about the current state of health and nutrition in America. She touched on everything from GMO’s and other dangerous chemicals that are allowed in our foods to the importance of eating organic. It was truly an eye opening session for so many moms and a great way to start the conference. Next, we heard from Traci Paige Johnson, also known as the voice of “Blue” from Blue’s Clues! She’s the creator of the beloved show, as well as SuperWHY and yummico! She gave us a sneak peek at some of the new programs she has in store, and we’re especially excited for yummiloo, a new show about healthy eating for kids.

Dr. Susan Bartell spoke next, and talked about the hot topics of screen safety and raising kids in a digital age. She gave the audience some great tips, including no TV’s in a child’s bedroom and no screens for any family member at the dinner table. Up next was Suzy Stauffer, who brought the audience to tears with her touching and inspirational story and message. She encouraged all moms to “go beyond the bus stop” and to be “women first, mothers second” by put themselves first every once in a while.

After lunch, everyone returned for our final general session of the day. Heather White, Executive Director of the Environmental Working Group, shared great advice regarding the simple changes you can make to have a green home, from making your own cleaning products to switching to filtered water.

The remainder of the afternoon was spent in small group workshops, where attendees had the chance to learn about specific subjects, from GMO’s to party hosting! Zevia demonstrated how to host smarter celebrations during the holiday season, while Xlear, Inc. taught all about the benefits of xylitol and how to stay healthy, naturally. SmartFlour talked about all things gluten-free and separated the fact from fiction, and Nature’s Path EnviroKidz revealed the truth about GMO’s. FluNada showed everyone how to naturally protect you and your family from cold and flu season, Jess Kolko from Whole Foods gave everyone a lesson in Label Reading 101 and nutrition, and Suzy Stauffer, along with Rosemarie Miller, dove deeper into the subject of finding personal balance as a mother.

Throughout the day, attendees had the chance to explore the exhibitor room to meet our sponsors and sample their amazing products. Moms (and dads!) mingled with some of our favorite brands, including FluNada, Xlear, Inc., National Geographic Kids Books, Music Together, NUK, KIWI, and Babies R’ Us. Plus, everyone walked away with tons of samples from Zevia, Solgar, Sweetleaf, SmartFlour, EnviroKidz, Suja, Canyon Bakehouse, Prairie Grove Farms, Garden of Life, Kidfresh, Applegate, Maty’s, Dippin’ Chips, and much more!

We topped off an incredible day with a hilarious comedy hour, hosted by Sweetleaf! Comedian Karen Bergreen had everyone in stitches as she joked about the trials and tribulations of motherhood. It was great to sit back, relax, and have a good laugh with other parents.

Day 3:

Our final day began with a cooking demo from Aviva Goldfarb, creator of the Six O’Clock Scramble. She gave everyone great advice on meal planning for the whole family, and even made three quick, yummy, and healthy meals for the audience to try! Our favorite? The Greek 7-layer dip! After Aviva’s presentation, attendees broke out for another round of educational workshops. There were a few presentations dedicated to bloggers, including “The Truth About Stevia,” hosted by Sweetleaf, and “How to Build Your Blog with Social Media,” hosted by educational bloggers Amanda Boyarshinov and Kim Vij. Attendees also had the opportunity to learn about Oral Health from Dr. Mark Cannon, and see firsthand how to host a great sampling party from one of our very own Mom Ambassadors. There were even several kid-friendly workshops, including an interactive sing-along with Music Together, and tips for integrating the outdoors with your child’s toy box–props included!

We closed out the weekend with a special luncheon, just for our bloggers. After a delicious meal, bloggers had the chance to interact with our panel of experts and sponsors and ask questions, like “what do you look for in a blog?” and “do you have any product review opportunities coming up?” It was incredibly informative and a great way to wrap up the WOW Summit!

Throughout the weekend, we gave away TONS of prizes, including 25 NUK Baby Food and Smoothie Makers, passes to Walt Disney World, a double stroller from Babies R’ Us, and so much more! At the end of the conference, attendees received a goody bag filled with over $150 worth of samples and treats from our sponsors!

Thanks again to all of the amazing parents who attended the WOW Summit! Be sure to keep an eye out for details about next year’s conference–we hope you’ll be able to join us!
