De-stressor:

Exercise—even if it’s only a set of push-ups and sit-ups. It’s my reset button. It allows me to clear my head and organize my thoughts.

Organic ingredient:

Lemons. I use the zest for everything, from baked goods to pesto to ice pops, so I always make sure to buy organic.

Beauty essential:

Lip gloss! Even if I’m just dropping the kids off at school, a little bit of mascara and lip gloss makes me feel more put together.

Quick family dinner:

We love quesadillas—the fillings can be tweaked to make everyone happy, and they’re ready in minutes.

Date night:

My husband and I are big foodies. When we can, we scout out a restaurant and obsess over everything on the menu. It’s a simple dinner date, but we take it to another level.

Mother-daughter activity:

We cook together! My 5- and 3-year-old daughters are really interested in what I do, and they love to help. On weekends, we make a big batch of pancakes and keep them in the freezer—30 seconds in the microwave and breakfast is ready on busy school days.

Time-saver:

I started getting a weekly grocery delivery for staple items. You can end up spending an entire Sunday at the grocery store with the kids, and it can be chaotic. Delivery saves time and money because I can think about what I really need and compare prices.

Inspiration:

My 96-year-old grandmother. She’s amazing. She lives by herself, and until recently she was tap dancing and golfing multiple times a week. She still cooks, too—I’ll call her and she’s baking bread! That’s where I get my energy and love of cooking.

Secret to work-family balance:

I’ve learned to say no more often and be okay with it. I used to feel guilty when I couldn’t do something for work. Now I ask myself if the time away from my family is really worth it. You can’t say yes to everything.

Best advice:

When I was pregnant, I asked a friend what labor was like. She looked at me and said very simply, “It’s nothing you can’t handle.” I’ve never forgotten that. It doesn’t mean I have to handle everything alone. It just means I can do it.
