    Hi,

My name is Miriam and I am currently taking a Masters Degree at Babson College (Boston, MA). As part of one of our courses, we have to come up with an idea for a product and test it doing some interviews. My team and I have thought about a subscription box for girls between the ages of 4 and 8 years old to teach them through games, dolls and Diy’s that they can be as good as any boy in anything they want.

It would be really helpful if you could complete this survey so that we could get your insights about the topic in general.

If you don’t want to share that information on a public post, please send me a DM with the answers.
Thank you very much for your help!

    About the children
How many kids do you have?
    How old are your children?
What is the most popular toy in your household?
Do your children play with dolls? If so, how often? If not, why?
Do your children use apps? Why or why not? If so, can you give some examples of the apps?
What would your kids want to be when they grow up?
Do they compare themselves to other kids? How?

    About you
Are you a woman or a man?
    How old are you?
What do you do for a living?
Do you buy online? Why or why not?
Would you buy any of these items online:
    – Clothes for your children
    – Dolls
    – Other toys
    – School supplies
    – Arts and crafts supplies
Have you ever bought a subscription box? Why or why not?
Would you be interested in an educational subscription box for your kids?

    About our idea
Do you think there are still stereotypes about girls/boys?
Are you concerned about gender equality? Why or why not?
Do you think it could affect your children in the future?
Have any of your kids been in a situation where they were treated unfairly for being a boy/girl? What happened?

Love your ideas, this is a BIG project. Just one comment – girls AND boys are stereotyped. It doesn’t help to tell girls they can be “as good as a boy” when 1)you have made boy the standard and 2)boys aren’t encouraged and allowed to have different choices. Dolls are mentioned: they help all children to have empathy and to mimic adult behavior. Boys should be caregivers too.

Congrats on working on your Master’s I would love to help you out!
    About the children:
How many kids do you have? 4
    How old are your children? 1, 3, 6, 18
What is the most popular toy in your household? Lego blocks of all sizes
Do your children play with dolls? Yes If so, how often? Constantly, in fact the middle two just requested baby alive dolls for Christmas. The oldest wanted a giant stuffed sloth… that’s another story in itself.
Do your children use apps? Yes, they us ABCMouse.com and the offline apps as well as youtube kids
What would your kids want to be when they grow up? 18 – CNA, 6- Vet, 3- Minnie Mouse 1 (the only boy in the bunch but he is in love with trains and firetrucks so we’ll go that route for him)
Do they compare themselves to other kids? The oldest does constantly but all teenagers do. The only other one that does is the 6 year old. How? She compares everything from her toys to her shoes. I get to hear what other kids have and then followed by do you think we can get after…

    About you:
Are you a woman or a man? Woman
    How old are you? 36
What do you do for a living? Substitute Teacher with BS in Psychology working on Teaching Degree
Do you buy online? Yes Why or why not? It’s hard at times to take 4 kids out shopping without their dad with me to help restrain the can I haves that happen.
Would you buy any of these items online: I have all of the above this year for Back to School & Christmas time
    – Clothes for your children
    – Dolls
    – Other toys
    – School supplies
    – Arts and crafts supplies
Have you ever bought a subscription box? No Why or why not? Having 4 kids you have to purchase something that they could all do and most don’t supply add on children discount you have to purchase more boxes which gets insane cost wise.
Would you be interested in an educational subscription box for your kids? Depends on the cost I am all for teaching my children

    About our idea
Do you think there are still stereotypes about girls/boys? Of course there is I push girls to consider everything as a job. I also when I teach still overhear students mocking others for the colors they wear (pink/purple on a guy or black/dk blue on a girl).
Are you concerned about gender equality? Not as much as I used to growing up it was rare to see a female firefighter or police officer but it is more common even in smaller more rural areas.
Do you think it could affect your children in the future? Yes, because I think they have a greater chance to be whatever they want to be in life.
Have any of your kids been in a situation where they were treated unfairly for being a boy/girl? No but my oldest has been treated unfairly due to her hearing impairment and deformation of her ears all growing up. Kids can be very cruel and it doesn’t have to even be gender specific.
