Alex’s Awesome Sourdough Pizza Topping Tips

When it comes to toppings, we believe simplicity is best. Nothing beats a few quality ingredients fresh from the market. We also prefer not to go too heavy with the toppings as we want to make sure the sourdough crust shines through!

Keep It Classic

You’ll never see an Italian grandmother chopping herbs. Rather than cutting basil with a knife, we recommend tearing it gently with your hands over the finished pie for a fresher and more rustic flavor. Feel free to add a drizzle of some extra virgin olive oil if you feel like being fancy.

Get Your Greens

As health-conscious cooks, we love to slip in greens every chance we get. Try lightly tossing a salad and adding a handful right on top of your pizza when it is fresh out of the oven. We love the simple mix of arugula, extra virgin olive oil, splash of balsamic and freshly grated parmesan. However, a classic caesar always does the job as well!

Fresh Burrata Always Wins

If you’re feeling indulgent, there’s only one way to go! Yes, add spoonfuls of fresh burrata to each slice when the pizza is fresh out of the oven and still warm. We love this tip so much that we often have to fight an urge to not add this every time! A sprinkle of Maldon salt (or any finishing salt) is a nice touch as well.

Sweet and Spicy

For all you meat lovers out there, we recommend the sweet and spicy combination of uncured pepperoni, red chili flakes and honey. Simply top your pizza prior to baking (go easy on the chili flakes!) and let the drizzle of honey caramelize over the pepperoni in the oven. Prepare for your mouth to water!
